Entries in Michael Jackson (5)

I can't believe tomorrow will be two years that he's gone.  I said everything I could say last year.  I still feel the same way.  Today, I will simply leave you with (another) two of my favorite (and in my opinion among the most underrated) Michael Jackson songs.  Please enjoy.

I'm going to see Janet in concert on Monday and am beyond excited.  I've been browsing through her videos online in preparation for the show so I thought I'd share some of my favorites with you (believe me, it was difficult to narrow it down to these few).  I'll definitely do a post-concert follow-up.  In the meantime, enjoy!

What are some of your favorites?

*please note - I wanted to add the "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" video (I seem to have a love affair with the Jackson family and Herb Ritts as I previously wrote about here) but couldn't find the original online anywhere.  If any of you know where I may be able to find it, I will be forever indebted.

Classic Video Pick of the Week: Michael Jackson "In The Closet"

I know this isn't the obvious choice for a Michael Jackson video but it is hands down, one of my favorites.  I love the sensuality and the rawness of it; I feel like it captured Michael in a different light. Throw in Naomi Campbell as a co-star and Herb Ritts behind the lens, and you end up with magic.  I definitely think this is one of Michael's most underrated videos.  So here it is, please enjoy my pick for classic video of the week: Michael Jackson, In the Closet.

Released: 1992
Director: Herb Ritts

MJ Tribute Done Right

All issues in his personal life aside, I believe Chris Brown was the first and only performer to truly embody the spirit and essence of Michael Jackson.  His performance on the BET awards this past Sunday brought me to tears.  I feel like the King of Pop finally got the tribute that he deserved.  Check out the video below and let me know what you think.

Never Can Say Goodbye...

For those of you who know me, you know the single most influential artist and performer in my life is the late Michael Jackson.  He is the reason I danced as a child, he is the reason I dance now, he is the reason I will always continue to dance.

I remember how excited I used to get when he would perform on an awards show or when his latest music video was released.  It was an event!  I would sit eagerly in front of my TV, VCR remote control in hand, getting ready to hit record the minute his face appeared on screen.  I would then sit there, completely transfixed, on this man, this entity.  To me, Michael was perfection.  After it was over, I would rewind my tape and watch it over and over again until I knew the choreography cold.  There was no way I could go to dance class the next day and not know the routine.

I took his passing very hard; I cried every day for months.  I still cry when I really think of him or when I hear certain songs.  I will always regret never having been able to dance for him, meet him, or even see him in concert.  It has been very difficult to accept that this is a dream that will never come true.

So here I am, with tears in my eyes, writing this at 1:30 in the morning on the anniversary of his death.  I don't even know if any of what I have written makes sense but I wanted to try to share with you, a little of what he meant to me.

Please enjoy a (small) few of my favorite songs, videos and performances of the late, great, Michael Joseph Jackson.

1995 MTV Music Video Awards - My favorite dance performance of ALL TIME.

Smooth Criminal - My favorite music video of ALL TIME.

I Can't Help It (remix) - My favorite Michael song (I think) - audio only

I Wanna Be Where You Are - that VOICE!  This song just makes me so happy.

I’m not thinking. Thinking is one of the biggest mistakes a dancer can make. You don’t think, you have to FEEL. You BECOME the bass. You BECOME the clarinet and the strings. You BECOME the physical embodiment of music.
